The Balloon principle: How overthinking kills great ideas

Brilliant ideas pop under pressure from self-doubt. We love to dress it up and call it something else, but it's really just fear in a nice suit.

Every time I walk onstage and pull out that balloon, people lean in. They know something’s about to pop, literally. That balloon represents an idea, a dream, a breakthrough. But then I pull out the pin...doubt, fear, perfectionism and boom.

Silence. Gone. When we overthink we smother our opportunity to "see what happens". We don't have any guarantees in life, we are all literally waiting to see what happens.

Trust your ideas in their rawest form. Don't be afraid to share it early in the process, safe feedback can save you lots of time.

Take the step to create something before you critique it. We say things like "it wouldn't have worked anyway, " or " I might do it next time."

Next time is now, don't sleep on yourself or your abilities.

Stop burying ideas, stop suffocating your future success.

Sometimes all your idea needs is air... not an autopsy.
